Doubles

FAQs

A doubles setup offers increased gas supply for extended dives, redundancy for safety, and improved trim and balance in the water. It’s ideal for technical diving, cave diving, and wreck penetration, where longer dive times and safety are critical.

Key factors include the type of diving (technical, wreck, cave), the size and type of cylinders you use, and the weight of your gear. You should also consider the wing’s lift capacity and material durability based on your diving environment.

Properly configuring a doubles wing involves adjusting the harness and plate system for a snug fit, ensuring the wing is centered behind the backplate, and distributing the weight evenly between the cylinders. Fine-tuning buoyancy and trim in the water can be achieved by shifting weights and adjusting the harness to your body shape. It is advised to test out any adjustments you make to your setup in a pool or other confined water before you take them into harsher environments.

The lift capacity needed depends on the size of your cylinders and the amount of additional gear you’re carrying. Typically, the Classic XT with 60 lbs of lift is ideal for larger cylinders and heavier technical gear, while the Rec EXP with 45 lbs of lift suits smaller doubles or lighter equipment setups.

Yes, Dive Rite backplates are compatible with both single and double tank setups. You simply adjust the wing and tank bands accordingly to switch between configurations. Use a STA or weave straps through the slots.
