Launched in early 2020, just as the pandemic was getting started, Dive Rite’s innovative chest-mounted O2Ptima, aka the ChO2ptima, is generating significant buzz among instructors and users as the hot new rebreather on the market...

Oxygen toxicity is a consequence of the biochemical damage that occurs in cells as a result of oxygen free radicals. Whenever oxygen is present, oxygen free radicals are formed. The number of radicals is directly related to the partial pressure of oxygen (pO2). Our cells have several mechanisms to inactivate oxygen radicals and to repair the damage that they cause. These defenses are able to keep ahead of the damage at normal partial pressures of oxygen but they fall behind when the pO2 exceeds about 0.45 atmospheres (ata)...

Dive Rite uses a heavy weight 1200 denier nylon base material with a pattern of armored plates that maximizes abrasion resistance. The SuperFabric® combination we use has proven to be 4 times more abrasion resistant than Kevlar...

FAQ

The O2ptima CM is a chest-mounted, fully electronically controlled closed-circuit rebreather (eCCR), known for its versatility and compact design. It easily attaches to almost any harness and is compatible with sidemount, back-mounted doubles, or single-tank systems. Its modular design allows it to be added or removed during dives for various applications, such as deep ocean dives or overhead environment penetrations.

The O2ptima was designed to use the ExtendAir Cartridge for convenience but will also use 812 granular absorbents. Duration is based on water temperature and CO2 production rate. The testing is done using a high flow rate of 1.35 liters of CO2 per minute.

Water temperature of 50 degrees at 1.35 flow rate is 3 hours and longer with lower flow rates.

Water temperature of 75 degrees at 1.35 flow rate is 4 hours and longer with lower flow rates.

Using the recommended 9 volt Lithium battery, the solenoid electronics will average 40 hours under normal use.

All rebreathers, including the O2ptima CM, require specific training before they can be used. You must be certified on the specific model to operate it safely. See Dive Rite’s O2ptima Instructor Listing to find an instructor.

Routine maintenance for the O2ptima CM involves replacing the galvanic oxygen sensors annually and a full service every two years or 100 dives.

Yes, the O2ptima CM is designed to accommodate both Micropore ExtendAir cartridges and loose granular absorbents. This versatility allows divers to choose the option that best suits their diving conditions and preferences.

Weighing only 14.4 lbs without the oxygen cylinder or absorbent material, the O2ptima CM is compact and ideal for travel. Its chest-mounted design allows it to be rolled up and stored in a carry-on, making it easy to transport.
