Why do EZ Nutz come in size 5/16 bolts?

EZ Nutz are designed for 5/16 bolts because when Dive Rite first introduced this style of bands and backplates in 1984, the available manifolds had an 8.25" on-center spacing that provided just enough clearance for 5/16 diameter bolts. Around 1990, Dive Rite worked with Dolphin Cylinder and Thermo Valves to establish the popular 8.5" spacing standard, and today we continue to use the 5/16-18 UNC 2B bolt (the standard for doubles).
