BCDs and Wings

FAQs

Choosing the right wing depends on your diving style and cylinder setup. For single tanks, a smaller wing like the Travel or Voyager Series is suitable, while larger wings are ideal for double tanks.

Lift capacity refers to the amount of buoyancy the wing can provide. The right capacity depends on your gear configuration and the type of diving you do. For single tanks, 25-35 lbs of lift is usually sufficient, whereas double tanks or more complex setups may require 45-65 lbs of lift.

Some Dive Rite wings are designed for versatility and can be used for both single and double tanks. However, it’s generally recommended to use a dedicated wing for each configuration to optimize performance and buoyancy control.

A BCD (Buoyancy Control Device) is an all-in-one unit commonly used for recreational diving, while a wing system consists of separate components (backplate, harness, and wing) that offer a more modular and customizable approach.

A backplate and wing system provides better trim, weight distribution, and a more streamlined profile compared to a jacket-style BCD, which can make diving more comfortable, especially for technical dives.
