I have a Nitek Computer. Can I send it in for service?
Nitek computers were retired years ago, therefore the support parts for them are limited. We can perform a battery change on your computer, but there is no guarantee that this will fix all of the issues you are having with your computer. If the computer display is off, a battery change may revive it but we cannot guarantee it will function properly if the computer battery was drained. To replace or check the battery, the retaining ring must be removed and a new one installed. If a new battery does not resolve the issue, we will not reassemble the computer. If the display shows Alt Er or mountain peaks at sea level, then the pressure transducer is bad and a battery replacement will not remedy the problem. You will be responsible for shipping charges to get the computer here for service, and to get the computer back.
To check the computer before sending it in for possible battery replacement, try a hard reset. To do a hard reset, put the computer on charge. After 30 minutes of charge time, while depressing both buttons and unplug the charging cable from the computer. If it wakes up, continue charging and once charged let stand overnight and check the battery status in the morning. If the battery is full then most likely the battery is good and it was in sleep mode to conserve the battery. If the battery indicator has dropped below half overnight, it might survive a battery replacement. If the computer is not responding to switch depressions, it will most likely respond to replacement magnetic buttons.
Please watch this video for instructions on replacing the buttons.
